2011-12 President

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Point West – one of the Sacramento areas most active and exciting Rotary clubs.  It has been said that Point West Rotary is not your father’s Rotary Club, but it is mine!  Rotary has been a way of life for me since 1986 when my dad joined.  I was beyond honored when asked to be the President of our club, and so proud to follow in my dad’s footsteps.  We have 160 members that are truly committed to "Service, Fun & Fellowship".  We continuously strive to contribute funding to worthy charities, and actively participate in community events.  Our club embodies the 2011-12 Rotary International Theme, Reach within to Embrace Humanity.  Every visitor comments on our energy, enthusiasm and irreverence.  We don’t accomplish this without having a lot of fun, come join us and prepare to have fun with a purpose.  You will likely see many dogs at our meetings as well since some of our Rotarians are actively involved in volunteer puppy raising for Canine Companions for Independence; yet another fun reason to join us.  We firmly believe in "Service Above Self" and are very proud of our record of giving and helping others in the community for over 26 years.  Our club is also very involved in Ambassadorial Scholarships and Rotary Youth Exchange.  After all, the youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders, and hopefully future Rotarians.

Point West Rotary has two major fundraisers every year.  Our Festa di Vino, a wine and food tasting event, is held in the spring and our Brewfest is held in the fall, mark your calendars for September 10th.  This year, it is my goal to have a Kid Fest, an event that is geared for family fun.  Our fundraising events provide us with the resources to contribute to many charitable organizations.  In addition, we  partner with organizations such as The Assistance League, Women's Empowerment, Salvation Army, Christmas Promise, Eagle Golf, Sacramento Children’s Home, Folds of Honor, and the American River Parkway Foundation, just to name a few.  Through these events we also support our sponsored schools, Encina High School and Thomas Edison Elementary.
Partnering with Thomas Edison and Encina we are committed to mentoring and developing students.  Many of our members are active in continuously working with students, through the HOSTS program, and the Encina Business Academy.  It is a tremendous partnership for everyone involved.  We are very interested in starting an Interact Club as this will give students a chance to start giving back to their community; building a great foundation for future Rotarians.
There is always something fun on our calendar that provides fellowship such as our Softball Team, our Annual Bowling Bash, our Cocktail Party, our Mystery Dinner, our Golf Tournament and any other ideas that our Rotary family can dream up.

I have been a Rotarian for 9 years now; I proudly take my two boys with me to Rotary and to our events to help.  They love to participate in Eagle Golf and the annual “chicken chucking” at the Salvation Army Food Distribution at Christmas; they even bring their friends.  It is pretty cool to see teenagers get out of bed at 6 AM to lend a hand to those in need!

Our membership is open to community and business members who are looking for an opportunity to give something back while enjoying the very unique fellowship and camaraderie of the Rotary Club of Point West-Sacramento.   Many want to join for the business contacts, but they stay for the fun!  Please come join us for a meeting, your first breakfast is on us.
